,The Mahoning Valley Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 is and always has been 100% volunteer that depends upon fundraising and donations to enable us to be ready to respond to any emergency that may arise in our community. These responses cost money. Our station has millions of dollars worth of equipment that is needed to be on the ready. Beyond this equipment, we are a business just like any other except for one thing - we do not bill for our services. While we do have the support of our township leaders as well as our taxpayers, our bills for common things such as power, heat, and fuel are paid for by the monies that we need to raise. We are blessed by a team of talented administration staff who helps guide us thru these very complex decisions that are needed to just keep us afloat. Don't forget these same indiviuals perform these duties without pay as volunteers. These are just some of the reasons that your support is so vital to keep us in existance and remain on the ready.
Each and every year typically in the fall, you will recieve a request for donations in your mailbox from a service that we hire to do so on our behalf. This fire company was started by a pass of the hat in which locals threw some money in that hat enabling us to fund our responses. This mail fund drive is the modern day pass of the hat. While we are thankful for those who faithfully donate what they can, each and every year nearly 75% of our residents DO NOT return a donation. Please consider doing your part to help us continue to keep our heads above water financially. The truth of the matter is that without you we simply cannot survive. Please know that we will only ask for donations thru the mail one time annually. However, if you do not respond with a donation return, you will get recieve a reminder form in the letter. These are both the same requests.
